Hold up wait a minute let me put some pimpin in it Model: Starion Posted 29 March – Get Burton on here. He’ll shore this up. It’s been a dozen years since I messed with my car stereo stuff. I remember that car audio is typically 8 ohm, and I also recall that using 8 ohm on your home stereo is bad for the speakers. They’ll work inside, but it’s hard on the voice coils since they’ll be getting more amperage than designed for. Actually, most home audio is 8ohm and most car audio is 4 ohm, at least, that’s the way it was in the 90’s when I was big into the car audio. Here’s my take on the funky front reading Due to the way they are wired, with the dash being an 8ohm and the door being a 4ohm.

4 Ohm Speakers… 8 Ohm Receiver? Help?

GSteg Originally posted by strodda ok thanks. You are better off getting yourself a decent set of components. Here are the reasons why. If you wire the tweeters in series with your existing speakers you will increase double the ohm load with results in cutting the power in half.

8-Ohm-powered subs have amplifiers designed to work best with 8-Ohm speaker impedances, but in a pinch, you can get away with using 4-Ohm speakers. Any time you alter the design of a speaker box by using a driver in place of the one it was designed f [More].

How to Check if your Speakers are Wired Correctly

But, on the other hand, people sometimes want it and installers are often asked to do it. Most receivers today prefer 6- or 8-ohm loads. When you connect two 8-ohm speakers to the same output terminal on the receiver, the impedance drops to 4-ohms, which is often below the safe operating range of the receiver.

A Good 4 Ohm Amp These speakers are rated at 25 WPC @ 4 Ohms. I was wondering if anyone knew any good amps that would pair well with small 4 ohm speakers such as these.

Would like to hook it up to some decent 6 ohm speakers I have but the back of set says 8 ohms. Any problems on this low a power or suggestions? Two equal impedances run in parallel will yield half the impedance of each or 3 ohms worse than 6. In series twice the impedance or 12 ohms better from a loading standpoint How do you arrive at six ohms? If you measured the DC “resistance” – and got 6 ohms it may well be an 8 ohm speaker “impedance”. Impedance is what matters and is the combination of resistance and inductance measured at some test frequency.

If you have a speaker that is marked 6 ohms. Not guaranteed OK – but probably OK. One 6 ohm speaker, or two in series NOT parallel If it is old enough to have vacuum tubes on the output go for it. Old enough for germanium transistors on the output – less a sure thing.

Trying to find AVRs that handle 4-ohm loads specifically “on the cheap” is no easy task. I went through that search myself and settled on my current Denon. Again, unless you plan on driving your speakers to ear-splitting levels, most quality brand AVRs will drive 4-Ohm speakers just fine at normal listening levels. Most AVRs with 4-Ohm or 6-Ohm speaker settings in their setup menus just put throttling circuits in place to prevent the amps from overheating if the load gets too great.

It’s protection more than a performance enhancement. They give the 8 ohm specs, but I don’t know how well they can handle 8 ohm speakers with a 4 ohm dip.

can i run 4 speakers with a 4 to 8 ohm on this receiver 1 Answer Hi Burt, This receiver can run a pair of speaker on each zone in 8ohms, meaning each pair will need to have an 8ohm load altogether.

Can car speakers be used as stereo speakers? Yes, if you keep a couple of things in mind. The first is generally the ohms rating of the speakers. Most home speakers are rated at 8 ohms impedence, while car stereo speakers are rated all over the place, generally 4 to 10 ohms. A 4 ohm speaker will require twice as much power to operate as an …8 ohm speaker and a 10 ohm speaker will require less power to operate as an 8 ohm speaker would. With home stereos and their preference for 8 ohm speakers, it’s generally OK to use 4 ohm speakers, but don’t expect a full volume to come from them as you would from your car.

The stereo has to work about twice as hard to deliver the same volume as they would from the 8 ohm speakers. What this translates into, is heat. So if you use them for normal listening levels and don’t crank on ’em, you should be OK. As for the 10 ohm speakers, stereo receivers like to have some type of load placed on them at all times. Not having enough load on an audio amp also equates to the same thing:

Yes, you can use 8 ohm speakers with a 4 ohm amplifier. Just wire two 8 ohm speakers of the same wattage in parallel. That way, the output impedance of the amplifier will be matched and having the same wattage for the two speakers will ensure that they will operate .

This makes the GTO an ideal match to systems powered with head-unit or factory-amplifier power levels, or even with many of the GTO Series amplifier combinations to help keep up with systems that feature one or more subwoofers. And its great power-handling specifications also increase reliability over the lifetime of the speaker. With an effective increase in cone area, the speaker radiates more air.

Also, the carbon-injected cone material produces a lighter and stiffer cone. The result is a better low-frequency response and a greater ability to make those important musical notes that people often associate with larger speaker sizes. The result of this control is accurate sound in your car. True 4 Ohm Technology Low-Impedance, three ohm voice coils compensate for the undergauged speaker wiring found in many of today’s cars, and make the most of every watt your amplifier or head unit can deliver.

Vented magnet assemblies GTO speakers feature vented magnet assemblies to help cool the voice coil. Frequency response to 21kHz A wide frequency response that extends beyond 20kHz helps to compensate for speaker-placement variations in your car and for human hearing deficiencies in the high-frequency spectrum above 15kHz. The result is that GTO speakers deliver more of the full-range frequency response that you associate with great sound.

I always have to remind myself to double check which socket to plug the speaker cable into on the back of my Ampeg GVT15 head as I have a 2 x 10 cab with 2, 8 ohm speakers wired in parallel and also have the Ampeg 1 x 12 cab which has a 16 ohm speaker. Having only skimmed through the article briefly I’m at work at the moment! So, am I right in saying that, as my 2 x 10 cab is wired with the 8 ohm speakers in parallel giving 4 ohms impedance, this will be louder than if I had them wired in series which would give the cabinet a 16 ohm impedance rating?

noYes, it can. But since a 3 ohm load will draw more current than a 4 ohm one, there is a risk of the amplifier overheating, so it isn’t recommended.

How do they work together? A 4 ohm speaker is a speaker with a nominal input impedance of 4 ohms. But what’s an 8 ohm amp? That cannot be an amplifier with a nominal output impedance of 8 ohms, because all audio amplifiers have an output impedance of less than 0. There are 4, 6, 8 ohm speakers with this input impedance, but no 4, 6, 8 ohm amplifiers with this output impedance. It is customary for the connection of audio devices to talk of the source and load impedance or output and input impedance.

If we hear something of an “8 ohm amplifier”, then we think usually of the 8 ohm loudspeakers.

The ability to manage damping properly may have something to do with the chosen speaker impedance I believe you may have hinted at this during a previous reply? To your new question of the subwoofer, most people will buy a powered subwoofer where the amp is included in the subwoofer.

Will my old speakers work with a new receiver? July 6, 8: I’ve been given a pair of unpowered speakers. But, I’m far from an audiophile, so I’d like some advice. As far as I can tell, the speakers are from a company called Soundwave and the specific model is “Silhouette”. I’ve been unable to find any information about the company or speakers, but my google-fu may be weak.

Luckily, the previous owner saved a copy of the spec sheet, an image of which you can find here. You can find a picture of the speakers here. Are these any good?

Running a 16 ohm speaker to a 8 ohm output?

Speakers Clint DeBoer Speaker Impedance Rating Explained That speaker impedance rating on your towers and bookshelf speakers is held up as a mystery—something strange and mystic, yet dangerous. The bottom line is that people are confused about speaker impedance. Speaker Impedance Defined I think the easiest way to define speaker impedance is to say that it is the resistance any speaker gives to the current and voltage being applied to it. In a nutshell, a loudspeaker is a big resister—a really cool one.

Speaker impedance changes based on the frequency of the signal fed into it. The loudspeaker manufacturer likely developed a 4-ohm speaker because he know what kind of amplifier would be required or typically mated with it to get the desired sound.

When a manufacturer states the power output of an amplifier, they provide the impedance of the speakers as a reference so that buyers can compare ‘apples to apples’. They are not inferring that you have to use 4 ohm speakers. The power output into an 8 ohm load will be a little less but I doubt you.

Friday, April 23, – The pre-amp just boosts the signal for the amplifier to power the speakers. A stereo pre-amp or stereo receiver is for two-channel listening, just as a stereo amplifier is for two channel listening. Separates are more expensive. This is not to say that a Harman Kardon or Denon can’t drive 4 ohm speakers, but they may have a problem at loud listening levels. That is why it is generally wise to buy 8 ohm speakers, particularly for budget systems.

NAD has a T model that is their least expensive current model. If you want to spend less you may try the older T either used or possibly leftover stock or the discontinued Outlaw Audio although this model has Dolby Prologic, but not Dolby Prologic II.

And by including removable shelf-mount stands and wall-mount brackets for the satellite and center speakers, the system offers you great flexibility for installing the speakers in different locations. You can even place these video-shielded speakers near your TV without causing magnetic interference. While viewing an action film, you hear every crash, bang and boom the soundtrack has to offer. A subwoofer properly in phase with the satellite speakers generates clear, and lifelike sounds for instruments such as drums, piano and plucked strings.

Magnetically shielded loudspeaker components Unshielded loudspeaker components can upset the magnetic field in a conventional TV, resulting in visible color shifts and possible long-term damage. Energy-saving features To adhere to European guidelines, the HKTS 9BQ system uses low standby-power consumption — less than 1 watt — and includes a number of energy-efficient features. If the subwoofer receives no audio signal for 15 minutes, the subwoofer automatically shuts off. The speakers are magnetically shielded to prevent interference that can damage your television.

Together, the combination creates an immersive, degree surround-sound environment.
